2021 Ford Expedition

The 2021 Ford Expedition is available in nine trims, including the XLT, Limited MAX, King Ranch, and Platinum MAX. All trim levels come equipped with roof rails, running boards, daytime running lights, fog lights, a class IV trailer hitch receiver, heated exterior mirrors, and privacy glass. The Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum also feature a hands-free, foot-activated liftgate and rain-sensing wipers. Each MAX trim package is a foot longer than its corresponding standard Expedition for increased cargo space. The Expedition is available in several paint colors, ranging from Antimatter Blue and Star White to Magnetic, Burgundy Velvet, and Agate Black.

The standard engine for all Expeditions is a 400-horsepower 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine that produces 480 pound-feet of torque. This powertrain is paired with a 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission and uses either a standard rear-wheel-drive or an available four-wheel-drive layout.

The SUV offers decent fuel efficiency, averaging 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. Also, four-wheel-drive models are outfitted with Ford's Terrain Management System. This system includes seven selectable drive modes: Normal, Sport, Tow/Haul, Eco, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Sand, and Mud/Ruts. In addition, every trim level packs hill-start assist, stability control, and traction control. All variants using the four-wheel-drive layout also gain hill-descent control. Properly equipped, the 2021 Expedition has a maximum towing capacity of 9,300 pounds. Trailer sway control is standard as well. Off-road enthusiasts can add the optional FX4 Off-Road Package to their Expedition. This package includes top-of-the-line front and rear shocks, a heavy-duty radiator, all-terrain tires, skid plates, and fuel-tank underbody protection.

The XL STX is new to the Expedition lineup for 2021 and features two rows of seats instead of the standard three in other trims. From the XLT to the King Ranch, every version features a leather-wrapped steering wheel with integrated audio controls, automatic climate control, and a rotary gear shift dial. The standard second row is a 40/20/40 split flat-folding bench, although the Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum have 35/30/35 power-folding seats. All except XL STX feature a power-fold and power-recline 60/40 third-row seat. Further, there are 20.9 cubic feet and 63.6 cubic feet behind the third row and the second row, respectively. Also, each standard Expedition offers a maximum cargo space of 104.6 cubic feet. In contrast, all Expedition MAX trims boast a maximum of 121 cubic feet. Standard entertainment amenities include a touch-screen display, 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, voice recognition, Bluetooth connectivity, and USB ports. High-end models also bundle an HD radio, a premium Bang and Olufsen audio system, wireless charging, and voice-activated navigation. A dual-headrest rear-seat entertainment system is available on the XLT, King Ranch, Limited, and Platinum.

The latest Ford Expedition features a suite of advanced airbags, LATCH, child-safety locks, blind-spot monitoring, cross-traffic alert, and automatic high beams. The SUV also adds lane-keeping assist, pre-collision assist, automatic emergency braking, a rearview camera, and an SOS Post-Crash Alert System.
